Well, it is now official. The DVD Forum steering committee has ratified version 1.0 of the physical specifications for high definition DVD players.
Microsoft's VC-9 codec is one of three codecs required to be installed on machines meeting this standard. This is a huge win for Microsoft as they have been trying to get into the living room for a long time now. Consumers can only hope that Microsoft doesn't repeat any of their shaddy business practices of the past.
